Preventing Confer With Going offline on Desktop due to Browser Tab Sleeping

Modified on Thu, 1 Jun, 2023 at 12:54 PM

If you use a web browser to access Confer With then its important to check your settings if you use either Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome. This is because in early 2023, both of these browsers introduced a new Memory Saving setting. This setting allows a browser tab to "Go To Sleep" after a period of time to save memory and power. If this happens, this will disconnect you from the Confer With service and prevent you from successfully taking calls. To stop this happening you need to make a simple change to the settings of your browser by following the instructions below :

If you're using Microsoft Edge

A video can be found here showing the settings below

  1. Click on the three horizonal dots in the top right hand corner, once the menu opens choose "Settings"
  2. Then click on "System and Performance" on the left
  3. Finally locate the section "Save resources with sleeping tabs" and toggle off the option to ensure no tabs go to sleep

If you're using Google Chrome

A video can be found here showing the settings below

  1. Click on the three vertical dots in the top right hand corner, once the menu opens choose "Settings" :
  2. Then click on "Performance" on the left
  3. Toggle off the Memory Saver option to ensure no tabs go to sleep
  4. This is now complete and Confer With should not to go sleep in Chrome.
